Nominations Sought for Volunteer Awards

Do you know any outstanding volunteers who are making a real impact in their communities? We invite you to nominate them for the first ever Voluntonies, a new award presented by the Volunteer Center of Lewis, Mason ad Thurston Counties and sponsored by The Olympia Film Society and Olympia Federal Savings.

Categories include: Emerging Leader Award, Community Champion Award, RSVP Lead with Experience Award, Team Impact Award, Inspirational Achievement Award, Global Thinker Award, Cool Collaborators Award, and Social Entrepreneur Award.

Send us your nominations today, including the name, phone number, mailing address and email address of your nominee, the category they are being nominated for, and a short paragraph detailing why they should receive this award.

Find Your Purpose at the Next Chapter Workshop - May 1st

There is one essential thing you need for success. Some call it an elevator speech, others call it a mission or vision statement; no matter what you call it, important transitions hinge on delivering it effectively. Regardless of what stage you're at in life, if you want an opportunity to retool skills, obtain training, or explore new options, join us from 9 a.m. to noon for the third class in the Next Chapter Track 1 workshop series May 1st, 2010 at the Olympia Center on 222 Columbia St. NW, Olympia, WA 98501.

Next Chapter, a program of the Volunteer Center of Lewis, Mason, and Thurston Counties in collaboration with Centerpoint Institute and NonProfit Solutions NW, can help guide you through the process of understanding where you’re at in life and give you the tools to discover where you want to be next. The third workshop in the series, “Purpose,” will help participants develop their own mission statement and ways to deliver it effectively. The class focuses on how to:

· Delve into questions like: "What is a vision statement?" and "What do I need to know in order to write an effective one?"

· Create an actual draft of your own elevator speech/vision statement.

· Practice using your vision statement to communicate with others.

Track I, Counterpoint’s series, is geared towards community members who want to explore options for the next stage of life, refine skills, obtain new training, use their skills in service opportunities, and make meaningful connections with their peers. Each is an interactive, hands-on experience with homework in between to deepen your experience. Come ready to work and be prepared to change your life.

 

Workshop Helps Nonprofits Increase Capacity - April 22nd

Are you looking for ways to strengthen your nonprofit organization’s programs and increase effectiveness? Join us for the first in a four-part series of seminars on how to sustain a skills-based volunteer program on Thursday, April 22^nd from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Olympia Center.

This series of workshops is designed to create collaborations between nonprofit organizations and skills-based volunteers to enhance community services. The first workshop in the series, “Capacity,” will help participants improve their nonprofit organization’s capacity with a sustainable skills-based volunteer program.

The class will discuss:

o   Overview of a skills-based volunteer program

o   Assessing your current organization’s needs

o   Matching skills–based volunteers with organization’s needs

o   Volunteer Recruitment, Training and Retention
