For the second year in a row, The Volunteer Center of Lewis, Mason, and Thurston Counties is promoting a summer long campaign to inspire volunteering in the area.
“Anyone can participate and there are a variety of different opportunities to choose from like working on landscaping at Bread and Roses, building a house in Lewis County, creating crafts at Sand in the City, or helping a local nonprofit form an operating plan through Executive Service Corp,” said Sara Ballard, Executive Director of the Volunteer Center.
From Memorial Day (May 31st) to Patriot Day (September 11th), the Volunteer Center will feature a variety of service projects to choose from, hosted by nonprofit organizations throughout the region. Opportunities can be found by clicking on the Summer of Service logo at www.volunteer.ws and are divided into five main categories: community renewal, education, environment and energy, health, and safety and security.
"Summer is also a great time to catch up on your volunteering skills by attending one of our classes, you can gain project management skills by becoming a Volunteer LEADer or build your resume by learning how to be on a board of directors at our "Get on Board" training,” said Ballard.
Anyone who has a service project they would like to add to the list or who would like information on creating a service project of their own should contact the Volunteer Center at 360-741-2622.
The mission of the Volunteer Center of Lewis, Mason and Thurston Counties is to support volunteer efforts to address community needs; and inspire, engage, and mobilize volunteers.
