A few of the great volunteers who prepared and distributed 425 Thanksgiving meals to homebound seniors shared their thoughts with us:
Madison Floyd, age 12: The reason why I like doing Holiday Meals is you get to help the people that need it the most. Also I like that my club gets to do it with me.
Sheila Hines, age 13: Delivering meals makes me feel good in the inside. I like seeing the happy faces when I arrive at their house.
Lisa Bluhm: We had a great time delivering holiday meals. The recipient were all very grateful for the gift. A few invited us in to put the meals in their kitchens. When I made phone calls to the people in Mason County the week before to see if they wanted a meal delivered, I talked to one sweet lady named Valley. She was so happy to hear from us. She told me how this is such a hard time of year for her. She is alone and her son had died during November so getting through these months makes it very difficult. She doesn't cook for herself let alone a fancy Thanksgiving meal. She said it was a blessing to have us come and take the time to deliver a meal and visit with her.
Stephanie Scott: Thank you for this wonderful experience! One interaction in particular will stay with me forever...when my sister and I stopped at one house, we were greeted by an elderly man who hugged me three times as I brought in the food and then began to cry. I asked if he was ok and he said yes, just lonely. We ended up sitting down to chat with him and discovered that he had lived just south of our hometown in Iowa and had also served in the Navy (I am a military spouse). His wife woke up from a nap and joined in the conversation. I hated to leave, but we needed to keep moving because of the roads. I could have stayed there all afternoon! Thank you for all of your hard work to make this happen!
